The Ujangsan Summer Water Park, set up by Seoul’s Gangseo-gu (District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon) to give children a safe place to cool off during the sweltering summer, opened on the 31st at the soccer field in Ujangsan Neighborhood Park in Gangseo-gu. The water park will run for ten days through the 9th of next month, having been selected for a Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council program and established itself as the district’s signature summer water festival. On opening day, District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon visited the site in person to carefully inspect the facilities, water quality and deployment of safety personnel, underscoring the district’s particular focus on creating a safe water-play environment.

The water park features a variety of attractions for children to enjoy safely, including a lazy river, inflatable slides and air bounce structures. It is also equipped with convenience facilities such as changing rooms, showers, shaded rest areas and food trucks offering quick bites, so families can spend the day there with minimal inconvenience. Operating hours are split into two sessions daily, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with separate night openings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on August 1, 7 and 8, when the heat is expected to be especially intense. The measure is seen as a way to let working families who cannot get out during the day, or anyone still sweltering late into the evening, enjoy the water park as well.
This marks the third consecutive year that Gangseo-gu has operated the water park after being selected for the Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council program. Gangseo-gu is reportedly the only district to have been chosen for the program three years running since 2024, a track record seen as reflecting its consistently recognized expertise in running summer water programs and managing safety. As recent heat waves and tropical nights have driven up local residents’ interest in places to cool off, the water park at Ujangsan Neighborhood Park has become a go-to summer outing spot for residents each year. It is especially popular because children can enjoy water play at a neighborhood park without having to travel far. On this day, District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon also spent time playing water guns with children, joining in the festive atmosphere.
“We will do everything we can to manage water quality and hygiene so that children can enjoy the water park safely,” said District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon. “I hope families will have a happy time together at the Ujangsan Summer Water Park.” With concerns over safety accidents at summer water facilities recurring every year, the district mayor’s hands-on presence at the opening is seen as a sign of the district’s commitment to safety management.

The district plans to focus on visitor safety throughout the water park’s operating period through water quality testing and the deployment of safety personnel, and it has asked visitors, given the ongoing heat, to follow safety guidelines such as resting sufficiently in the shade and staying hydrated. The Ujangsan Summer Water Park will operate through the 9th of next month, and detailed schedules and usage information are available on the Gangseo-gu Office website.
