About 40 people, including members of the Jawol-myeon Volunteer Fire Corps, officials from local affiliated organizations, township office staff and residents, took part in the cleanup on a voluntary basis. Despite the sweltering weather, participants focused on collecting styrofoam, waste plastic, tree branches and other marine debris and household waste that had accumulated on the beach and surrounding coastline. The total amount of waste collected over the course of the day reached about 3 tons.
Jawol-myeon Township explained that the event was organized to provide a pleasant environment for beachgoers ahead of the peak summer vacation season, while also spreading a culture of marine environment conservation throughout the local community.

Kang Hyuk-cheol, head of Jawol-myeon Township, said, “I am grateful to the officials from affiliated organizations and the residents who actively took part despite the hot weather to help create a clean beach.” He added, “We will continue to do our utmost to preserve Jawol-myeon’s beautiful natural environment through ongoing cleanup days and environmental purification activities, and to build a pleasant tourism environment that satisfies both residents and visitors.”
As the summer vacation season brings a growing number of visitors to the beach, this cleanup ahead of the opening carries significance as a first step in coastal hygiene and safety management.
