A university student volunteer corps brought warmth to the local community with madeleines they baked themselves. The Camellia Volunteer Corps of Jaeneung University (led by Kim Yun-kyung), affiliated with the Dong-gu Volunteer Center, announced that on the 23rd it held integrated Jemulpo-gu orientation training for 20 activity-site managers of the Dong-gu Volunteer Center and carried out a talent-sharing activity alongside it.

The event, organized by the Dong-gu Volunteer Center, centered on orientation training for activity-site managers in connection with the Jemulpo-gu integration set to launch in July. The training explained the operational direction of activity sites and the main changes taking effect after the integration, helping field managers prepare for the changes in advance.

Alongside the training, a madeleine-making experience run directly by 15 enrolled members of the Camellia Volunteer Corps was also held. After making madeleines together with the activity-site managers, the corps separately produced madeleines for local sharing, adding meaning to its volunteer work.

The corps personally delivered the madeleines it made — 150 each, for a total of 300 — to the Dong-gu Senior Welfare Center and the Boramae Childcare Home. It shared freshly baked treats and warm sentiment with local seniors and children.

Kim Yun-kyung, the corps’ leader, said, “It was meaningful that the students could directly practice the value of volunteering together with members of the local community,” adding, “We will continue to cooperate with the Jemulpo-gu Volunteer Center, which launches in July.” The activity is regarded as a case that strengthened the cohesion of the volunteer field ahead of the integration while demonstrating mutual prosperity between the university and the local community.
