Your Personal Practice Checklist
✍️ Chang-hee Baek, Columnist ⏱️ 9 min read
“I’ve started practicing ESG, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right.”
“I want to check what to do first and how well I’m doing.”
Many people have these concerns. Good intentions are a start, but without a systematic plan, it’s easy to lose momentum. Today, I’ll show you how to create your own ‘ESG Scorecard’ for systematic and sustainable practice.
With this one scorecard, you can clearly manage your ESG journey, feel a sense of achievement, and practice consistently!
📊 What is an ESG Scorecard?
A scorecard is originally a tool companies use to measure and manage performance. When applied to personal ESG practice, it becomes a powerful tool to systematically check and improve your eco-friendly lifestyle.
📋 Key Functions:
• Objectively assess your current ESG practice level
• Clearly identify areas needing improvement
• Visually track weekly/monthly growth trends
• Motivate through sense of achievement when goals are met
• Form long-term sustainable practice habits
💡 Key Point: “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. If you can’t manage it, you can’t improve it.”
🎯 Creating Your ESG Scorecard in 3 Steps
Step 1: Assess Your Current Level (Self-Diagnosis)
Purpose: Identify what you’re already doing and areas needing improvement
Method: Honestly answer 30 questions provided below
Time Required: About 10 minutes
Score Range: 0-90 points (Environment 30 + Social 30 + Governance 30)
Step 2: Set Achievable Goals
Purpose: Establish realistic and specific practice goals
Method: Set goals according to SMART principles
• S (Specific): Be specific
• M (Measurable): Make it measurable
• A (Achievable): Keep it achievable
• R (Relevant): Make it relevant
• T (Time-bound): Set a deadline
Step 3: Weekly/Monthly Review and Improve
Purpose: Continuous practice and gradual improvement
Method:
• Every Sunday: Check this week’s practices (5 minutes)
• 1st of each month: Comprehensive review of last month and adjust next month’s goals (15 minutes)
• Quarterly: Remeasure overall score and confirm growth (30 minutes)
📋 Step 1: ESG Practice Self-Assessment Checklist

- 3 points: Always practice (5+ times per week)
- 2 points: Often practice (2-4 times per week)

🎯 My ESG Total Score
Environment (E): _____ + Social (S): _____ + Governance (G): _____
📊 What’s My ESG Level? (Based on Total Score)
🏆 70-90 points: ESG Master
Excellent! You’re already embodying ESG in daily life. You’re now ready to inspire those around you and lead bigger changes. Show your leadership!
💚 50-69 points: ESG Practitioner
Great practice! You’re already implementing ESG in many areas. Focus on strengthening weaker areas and you’ll quickly reach master level.
🌱 30-49 points: ESG Growing
Beginning is half the battle! You’ve already taken interest in ESG and started practicing. That alone is amazing. Try gradually increasing 3-5 items per month.
🔰 0-29 points: ESG Beginner
Welcome! You’re just beginning your ESG journey. Start with the three easiest ones (tumbler, eco-bag, waste separation). You’ll experience amazing changes after a month!
🎯 Step 2: Setting SMART Goals
💡 Good Goals vs Bad Goals
❌ Bad Goal Example
“I’ll try to help the environment”
→ Too abstract, unmeasurable, no deadline
✅ Good Goal Example
“Starting this month, I’ll bring my tumbler every day for commuting to make disposable cup usage zero”
→ Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound
📝 My ESG Goals This Month (Choose 3)
💡 Tip: Choose only 3 at first. Too many make it hard to sustain!

💪 7 Secrets for Sustainable Practice
1. Let Go of Perfectionism
Don’t aim for 100 points. Even 60 points is excellent. What matters is not perfection but consistency.
2. Celebrate Small Wins
Practiced for a week straight? Celebrate! Acknowledge small achievements and reward yourself.
3. Record Visually
Put stickers on a calendar, draw graphs – make it visible. Just seeing your growth is motivating.
4. Start Again After Failure
Didn’t practice for a week? Don’t give up. Start again from today. Failure is part of the process.
5. Find Practice Partners
Do it with family, friends, or colleagues. Encouraging and checking with each other makes you 3 times more likely to continue than alone.
6. Integrate into Routines
Link ESG practices to existing habits like “always tumbler when commuting.” When automated, it requires less effort.
7. Imagine the Impact of Change
Think about the positive changes from your reduced disposables and saved electricity. When you feel the meaning, motivation sustains.
🌟 People Whose Lives Changed with the Scorecard
Ji-eun Lee (32, Office Worker)

Jun-ho Park (45, Company Employee)
“I filled out the scorecard with my wife. Started as a joke, but comparing and competing with each other, we both exceeded 80 points. Now our elementary school daughter has made her own scorecard too!”
Mi-rae Kim (28, Graduate Student)
“At first it was tedious. But checking weekly became a habit. In 6 months, I reduced electricity by 30% and waste by 50%, saving 1 million won annually. It feels like saving both my wallet and the planet!”
💚 Columnist’s Closing Message
The most important thing in ESG practice is not ‘perfection’ but ‘sustainability.’
A scorecard isn’t just a checklist. It’s a diary recording your growth and a compass toward sustainable living.
Check the 30 items above right now. And set 3 goals. In 3 months, you’ll experience amazing changes.
Measure, manage, and improve. You can do it! 💪
