Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) of Incheon said on the 15th that it is operating the “Village Tax Accountant” program, which provides residents with free tax consultations based on the pro bono service of tax professionals. The program opens a channel for residents who previously did not know where to turn when faced with complex tax administration to receive expert advice at no cost.

Under the Village Tax Accountant program, tax accountants voluntarily contribute their time and expertise to provide free consultations on national and local taxes. It focuses on everyday tax problems that are too burdensome to take to a tax accountant’s office for paid advice but too complicated to resolve alone. Yeongjong-gu said residents are receiving practical help through the program.

Any resident in need of tax consultation is eligible. In addition to inquiries on national and local taxes in general, residents can also receive consultations on appeals filed when they object to local taxes that have been levied. However, in keeping with the purpose of the program, consultations may be restricted for those holding assets above a certain amount or high-income business operators.

Using the service is simple. Residents who wish to consult can check the Village Tax Accountant assigned to them on the Incheon city or Yeongjong-gu website and then request a consultation by phone. For matters that are difficult to resolve over the phone, in-person consultations are also available as needed. Those who want to be informed of a Village Tax Accountant’s contact details separately can inquire at the 120 Incheon Call Center or the Yeongjong-gu Office Tax Division 1 (032-760-7230).

The district plans to continue using the Village Tax Accountant program to ease residents’ tax-related difficulties, protect taxpayers’ rights and interests, and improve convenience for taxpayers. Underlying this is the recognition that administration involves not only levying and collecting taxes but also helping taxpayers properly understand and exercise their rights.

A district official said, “We hope residents experiencing difficulties with tax matters will actively use the Village Tax Accountant program and receive help,” adding, “We will continue to pursue citizen-centered, tailored tax administration.”

Detailed information on the program is available on the Yeongjong-gu website (www.yeongjong.go.kr) by navigating to Civil Services – Civil Services by Field – Local Taxes – Village Tax Accountant.
