The Michuhol-gu Family Center (Director Choi Yeo-jin) in Incheon held a large-scale family event to strengthen bonds among family members and root a healthy leisure culture in the community. On the 27th, the center hosted the ‘Our Family Festival in Full Bloom of Laughter: Family Love Happiness Sports Day’ at the Michuhol-gu National Sports Center, bringing together 130 people from 34 families in the district.

The event was designed to bring together families of diverse generations and compositions to communicate and mingle in one place. With opportunities for families to spend time together dwindling amid the rise of nuclear families and single-person households, the aim was to narrow the emotional distance between family members and create an occasion for harmony through the shared activity of a sports day.
The pre-event stage marking the opening was led by the center’s self-help group ‘Morihwa.’ Morihwa members opened the event with a performance on the erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument, further enlivening the atmosphere of a gathering that brought together participants including multicultural families.
After the sports day events concluded, hands-on programs that the whole family could enjoy together followed. Traditional game experiences bridging the generations, such as tuho (arrow throwing), yutnori, jegichagi and gonggi, were offered, while booths for making national-flag bracelets and taking family photos were also run, with parents and children joining hand in hand.
Director Choi Yeo-jin said, “I thank all the families who took part in the event,” adding, “We will continue to prepare programs where families can communicate and interact together, and work to foster a family-friendly community culture.”
Meanwhile, the Michuhol-gu Family Center is a specialized family service institution that Michuhol-gu District entrusts to the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Inha University to operate. Rather than being limited to a particular group, the center serves all families, providing customized education by life stage, family counseling, and family cultural and leisure activities, supporting the happiness and well-being of families. This sports day was likewise carried out as an extension of these everyday family support programs.
