A gathering where families worked up a sweat and shared affection together was held in Incheon’s Michuhol-gu. On the 27th, the Michuhol-gu Family Center (Director Choi Yeo-jin) held the “Our Family Festival in Full Bloom: Family Love Sports Day” at the Michuhol-gu National Sports Center, with 130 people from 34 families in the district taking part.

The event was designed to go beyond a simple athletic gathering, aiming to strengthen the bonds among family members and spread a healthy leisure culture throughout the local community. Amid a reality in which it has become difficult for families to come together as the number of single-person and dual-income households grows, the event held added meaning as a time for families spanning generations to move their bodies and communicate together.

In the pre-event performance that opened the day, “Morihwa,” a self-help group of the Michuhol-gu Family Center, performed on the erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument. The stage reflected the center’s character as a place where families of diverse backgrounds, including multicultural families, come together, and it lifted the event’s mood amid an enthusiastic response from participants.

After the family sports day, an experience zone that the whole family could enjoy together was held. Traditional games bridging the generations, such as tuho, yutnori, jegichagi and gonggi, were offered, while booths for making flags-of-the-world bracelets and taking family photos were also operated, allowing participating families to make memories.

Director Choi Yeo-jin said, “I am grateful to all the families who joined the event,” adding, “We will continue to prepare programs where families can communicate and interact together, and work to create a family-friendly local community culture.”

The Michuhol-gu Family Center is a family-services specialist institution entrusted by Michuhol-gu and operated through the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Inha University. For all families, it provides life-cycle-tailored education, family counseling, and family culture and leisure activities, supporting the happiness and well-being of families.
