Incheon’s Michuhol-gu District (Mayor Kim Jung-sik) announced on the 3rd that it has completed renovation work on the Gaenari Rest Area in the vicinity of 306 Hagik-dong. The rest area in the old city center, which had been left neglected without play facilities, has been reborn as a space that children and residents can use together.

The Gaenari Rest Area was built long ago, leaving its children’s play facilities severely deteriorated, and even the existing playground equipment had been removed over safety concerns. Because the Hagik-dong area where the rest area is located is an old city center district lacking in children’s playgrounds, residents had steadily called for new play spaces and improvements to the rest area.
The district secured project funding through its 2026 participatory budget, reflecting these local conditions and residents’ opinions. The work was carried out from May 7 to June 25, with a focus on providing both a safe play environment and a comfortable place for rest.
During the renovation, a combination play structure, rocking play equipment and shock-absorbing elastic pavement were newly installed, and rest facilities including a pergola were also replaced. By reviving both the play and rest functions, the district ensured that children and adults could spend time in the same space.

The green environment was also made more abundant. The district enhanced comfort by planting a variety of trees such as camellias, hydrangeas, Miss Kim lilacs and Spiraea, and it improved the previously dark nighttime scenery by installing landscape lighting shaped like crescent and full moons.
A district official said, “We hope the newly renovated Gaenari Rest Area will become a space that children and local residents can use comfortably,” adding, “We will continue to do our best in management so that residents can use the rest area in a safe and pleasant environment.”
