Ganghwa-gun (Governor Park Yong-cheol) announced that it held the ‘Inaugural Ceremony for the First Ganghwa-gun Residents’ Autonomy Council’ at Jindalae Hall on the fourth floor of the county office on the 15th.

The event began with a progress report on the establishment of the Residents’ Autonomy Council, followed by the presentation of letters of appointment, a reading of the council members’ declaration, and a commemorative photo session. The first-term members pledged to actively gather residents’ opinions and to identify and pursue a range of resident autonomy projects tailored to the region’s characteristics.

The Residents’ Autonomy Council is a self-governing body that represents residents, tasked with gathering the community’s diverse views and identifying village agendas. Going forward, the members will carry out resident-centered activities such as convening residents’ assemblies, drawing up autonomy plans, and pursuing resident autonomy projects. In that it moves away from a model of simply following projects set by the administration and toward a structure in which residents determine their village’s challenges and find solutions on their own, the launch marks the creation of a channel through which local residents’ voices are directly reflected in county governance.

Ganghwa-gun Governor Park Yong-cheol said, “The launch of the first Residents’ Autonomy Council is a new starting point for residents to take part as the主 protagonists of their community,” adding, “We will provide solid administrative support so that residents’ diverse opinions can lead to change in their villages and the advancement of county governance.”

Ganghwa-gun said it plans to expand resident participation on the basis of the council’s autonomy and accountability, and to build a foundation for sustainable resident self-governance through capacity-building education and administrative support. Inquiries may be directed to the Autonomy Team of the Autonomy and Education Division (032-930-3238).
