The Yeongjong-gu Youth Participation Committee is a youth self-governance body established under the Framework Act on Youth and the Yeongjong-gu Ordinance on the Protection and Fostering of Youth. The district created the committee to coincide with the launch of Yeongjong-gu, aiming to provide a communication channel through which young people can take an active part in district affairs that concern them, while enhancing both the effectiveness of youth policies and the promotion of youth rights and interests.
The recruitment period runs from July 10 to July 31. Any young person aged 9 to 24 who is registered as a resident of the district or attends a school in the district may apply, and the door is also open to out-of-school youth.
Up to 15 members will be selected in total, including one chairperson and one vice chairperson. Selection will be conducted through a combination of open recruitment, in which young people apply individually, and recommendations from related institutions such as schools and youth organizations, in order to find candidates from a wide pool, with final selections made through procedures including document screening.
The selected first-term members will serve from August to December this year. In addition to directly planning the youth culture festival scheduled for October, they will carry out a variety of roles representing local youth, including proposing opinions on Yeongjong-gu’s youth policies and programs, planning and operating forums for communication with local youth and residents, taking courses on the youth participatory budgeting system, and taking part in local youth-related events.
In that it institutionalizes, from the district’s first year, a structure in which young people participate directly in the policy design process rather than remaining mere beneficiaries, the committee is expected to serve as a touchstone for the newly established district’s direction on youth policy.
“The first-term Youth Participation Committee, newly launching as the Yeongjong-gu era begins, will become a central pillar through which Yeongjong-gu’s young people take an active part in the process of formulating policies that concern them,” Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said. “I hope many local young people who will help shape Yeongjong-gu’s future will show keen interest and participate actively.”
Further details on the recruitment are available in the notices section of the Yeongjong-gu website (www.yeongjong.go.kr).
