Gangseo-gu in Seoul (Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon) will operate a “second-half mobile bicycle repair center” touring all 20 administrative neighborhoods in the district from July 27 through Nov. 20. A “bicycle wash station” equipped with high-pressure steam cleaners will also open at Gongam Naru Neighborhood Park in Gayang-dong. Both services are free of charge to Gangseo-gu residents, with no reservation required. The district says the program is meant to help residents ride safely without shouldering repair costs, while promoting bicycle use to cut traffic volume and carbon emissions in a push toward a low-carbon, green transportation environment.

The mobile repair centers will be set up in front of each neighborhood community service center. In the case of Hwagok 1-dong, the center will be located at Gangseo Atrium (195 Garogongwon-ro) instead of the community service center. The district plans to visit each of the 20 neighborhoods four times in rotation. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, with on-site registration closing at 1:30 p.m. The service does not operate on weekends or public holidays.
Eligible bicycles are everyday commuter models, excluding mountain bikes and professional-grade bicycles. Basic servicing — including brake and handlebar inspections, saddle and gear adjustments, and tire pressure checks — is provided free of charge. If parts such as tires, cables or brake pads need to be replaced during servicing, however, users pay only the actual cost of the parts. No labor charge is applied.
The wash service will be offered on an open lot at Gongam Naru Neighborhood Park (1459-8 Gayang-dong), next to Gayang Bridge. Two high-pressure steam cleaners will be used to strip away fine dust and caked-on grease, at no cost to users. The wash station runs through Nov. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, and any resident who rides a bicycle may drop by without an appointment. Grime lodged in chains and drivetrains is notoriously awkward to clean at home, so being able to handle servicing and washing in one stop is likely to be a practical draw for users.
One caveat: because both the repairs and the washing take place outdoors, operations may be suspended. The district said services could be temporarily halted for residents’ safety during heavy rain or heat advisories in July and August, and urged residents to check whether the service is running before making the trip.
The mobile repair centers are also tied to a charitable initiative. All proceeds generated through the program go toward helping struggling neighbors through the year-end “Warm Winter” campaign. According to the district, roughly 5 million won in proceeds collected from repairing 1,338 bicycles over 2024 and 2025 was donated in full. The result is a structure in which the program is not merely a convenience service — the simple act of handing over a bicycle for repair translates directly into local giving.

“If you have a bicycle that is broken or has been left sitting and dirty, I hope you will take this opportunity to have it serviced free of charge and ride it safely,” Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon said. “Beyond looking after residents’ health by encouraging bicycle use, we will continue to expand eco-friendly administration that reduces traffic volume in the city and cuts carbon emissions.” Details including the neighborhood-by-neighborhood schedule are available in the notices section of the Gangseo-gu Office website, or by contacting the district’s Transportation Administration Division at 02-2600-4119.
