Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jung) in Incheon announced on the 29th that it has appointed seven anti-smoking inspectors to help establish a proper no-smoking culture in the area, with the inspectors set to begin full-scale field activities for two years starting in August. This marks the first appointment of anti-smoking inspectors since the launch of Yeongjong-gu District.

From August this year, the inspectors will work for two years mainly in no-smoking zones within the district, taking on the role of helping establish a proper no-smoking culture while protecting residents’ health from secondhand smoke damage. They will monitor smoking in designated no-smoking zones under the National Health Promotion Act and related ordinances, support guidance and enforcement efforts, check compliance with no-smoking zone facility standards, and carry out no-smoking campaigns and awareness activities.
The district expects these activities to help create a pleasant and healthy residential environment free of tobacco smoke.
To this end, the district held the ‘Yeongjong-gu District’s First Anti-Smoking Inspector Appointment Ceremony and Job Training’ at the Yeongjong-gu Public Health Center (Director Jeong Han-suk) on the 22nd, presenting letters of appointment to the inspectors and asking them to actively work for the health of district residents.

The job training that followed the appointment ceremony focused on strengthening practical skills, covering laws and ordinances related to smoking cessation, techniques for face-to-face interaction when guiding smokers, and on-site safety management rules.
Jeong Han-suk, director of the Yeongjong-gu Public Health Center, said, “I expect the active work of the anti-smoking inspectors, who are joining Yeongjong-gu District from its very beginning, to contribute to spreading and establishing a no-smoking culture.” They added, “We will spare no effort in supporting efforts to listen to residents’ voices in the field so that a voluntary no-smoking atmosphere can take root throughout the community.”
As this marks the first appointment of anti-smoking inspectors in the newly launched autonomous district, their deployment to the field in August is expected to serve as an opportunity to lay the groundwork for Yeongjong-gu District’s early no-smoking administration.
