Ministry of Health and Welfare, National Center for the Rights of the Child and Hanjin Extend Public-Private Partnership for Crisis Pregnant Women Under Tripartite Agreement… Promoting ‘1308’ Hotline on Delivery Packaging

Case management expense support for crisis pregnant women to continue this year... Hanjin Courier tape to carry hotline number to boost accessibility

Posted Article No. 53756

The Ministry of Health and Welfare, the National Center for the Rights of the Child and Hanjin will continue their public-private partnership for crisis pregnant women and children this year, building on a three-way memorandum of understanding signed last year. The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Jeong Eun-kyeong), together with the National Center for the Rights of the Child (Director Kim Yu-im) and Hanjin, said it would further strengthen its support system for crisis pregnant women, centered on a case management expense support program and promotion of the ‘1308 Crisis Pregnancy Counseling Hotline.’ The collaboration is aimed at tightening the social safety net so that crisis pregnant women and children facing economic and psychological difficulties during pregnancy and childbirth can receive timely help.

Last year, donations from Hanjin funded case management expenses — including medical costs and childcare supplies — for 25 crisis pregnant women and 12 children. The case management expense program is a joint public-private effort that helps crisis pregnant women cover the costs of livelihood, housing, medical care and childrearing during pregnancy and childbirth. The partners also ran a promotional campaign for the 1308 hotline through banner ads on Hanjin’s website and its parcel delivery app.

This year, both the case management expense support program and the promotion of the 1308 hotline will continue. The case management expense program is part of a joint public-private effort to strengthen the support system for crisis pregnant women, connecting them with resources for livelihood, housing, medical care and childrearing during pregnancy and childbirth when they face economic and psychological hardship. The goal is to help crisis pregnant women raise their children stably within their birth families.

Hanjin will also keep promoting the 1308 hotline so that crisis pregnant women in need of help can access it more easily. The company plans to produce and distribute delivery packaging tape printed with the ‘1308’ hotline number, so that counseling information naturally reaches people through its nationwide parcel delivery network. Observers say the idea is meaningful in that a delivery box, something people encounter every day, can become a channel through which crisis pregnant women reach out for help.

Kim Hyun-sook, director general for population and child policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, “This collaboration is a meaningful example of publicizing and reinforcing the social safety net for crisis pregnant women and children.” She added, “We will continue to expand cooperation with the private sector so that crisis pregnant women can receive the counseling and support they need in a timely manner, further strengthening our support system.”

A Hanjin official said, “We hope Hanjin’s nationwide logistics infrastructure can serve as a warm channel of help for crisis pregnant women and children who fall through the cracks.” The official added, “We will continue to carry out various contribution activities that strengthen our society’s safety net, and strive for sustainable management practices.”

Kim Yu-im, director of the National Center for the Rights of the Child, said, “Continuing this cooperation through the tripartite agreement with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Hanjin provides a valuable foundation for making the support system for crisis pregnant women even more robust.” She added, “We will keep expanding various forms of public-private cooperation and do our utmost to ensure swift support reaches crisis pregnant women and children who need it.” The Ministry of Health and Welfare said it plans to use this collaboration as an opportunity to expand partnerships with the private sector and reduce blind spots in support for crisis pregnant women.
