The ‘2026 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival’ came to a triumphant close after a three-day run from July 31 to August 2 at Songdo Moonlight Festival Park in Incheon, drawing a cumulative audience of some 150,000 people. Now in its 21st edition, the festival adopted the slogan ‘RE:BOOT’—meaning to start anew—and greatly expanded its performances and amenities, once again proving its competitiveness as a global music festival representing the Republic of Korea.

Hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) and co-organized by the Incheon Tourism Organization (President Yoo Ji-sang) and Kyeonggi Ilbo (President and CEO Lee Soon-kook), the ‘2026 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival’ set the stage ablaze amid the sweltering heat with a lineup of 66 acts from home and abroad.

This year’s lineup featured overseas masters such as the British trip-hop legends MASSIVE ATTACK, the icons of American alternative rock PIXIES, KHRUANGBIN and The Jesus & Mary Chain, alongside leading Korean artists and next-generation newcomers including HYUKOH, Silica Gel, LEE SEUNG YOON, Original Love, Sultan Of The Disco, The Volunteers, TOUCHED, QWER, Noizegarden, XDINARY HEROES, Flesh Juicer and HANA. Artists from a range of countries—including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Taiwan, China and Indonesia—took part, delivering performances that spanned genres and generations, while collaborations continued with organizers of world-renowned festivals such as SXSW, Fuji Rock Festival, Strawberry Festival, Vagabond Festival and Fireball Festival.

On the opening day, July 31, the three-piece band Khruangbin from Texas in the United States headlined, opening the festival with a groove that wove together psychedelic rock, funk and soul. The Volunteers, Thornapple, QWER, Na Sang-hyun’s Band, Broken Valentine, KIRARA and the American act The Lemon Twigs also took the stage. At the official opening ceremony, a drone show depicting a Pentaport pick falling from an airplane, along with a drone performance that told the story of rock festival culture such as slam dancing and flags, lit up the night sky over Songdo.

On the second day, August 1, Massive Attack of Bristol in the United Kingdom delivered a sound and audiovisual performance blending electronic music, hip-hop, dub, soul and rock. The Jesus & Mary Chain, along with HYUKOH, LEE SEUNG YOON, Jang Pil-soon, Kwon Jin-ah, Say Sue Me and Far East Asia Tigers, filled the stage. On the final day, August 2, Pixies—visiting Korea for the first time as part of a world tour marking the band’s 40th anniversary—headlined, capping the three-day journey with an intense live set. That day, Silica Gel, Original Love and Noizegarden followed with their own performances.

This year’s festival also greatly expanded on-site content beyond the performances. ‘Pentarobic,’ a participatory program hosted by comedian Kim Hye-sun, had audiences running and dancing together to raise the excitement even before the shows began, while ‘Penta Radio (Incheon Pentaport On Air),’ operated in a large cool zone, allowed audiences to enjoy the festival even during waiting times. Official MD merchandise expanded its sales channels through a collaboration with Musinsa, and products created in partnership with character IPs such as Yuhee, Choigosim and Kyunya Restaurants were unveiled.

Visitor convenience and safety management were also strengthened. Entry routes were divided into two locations to ease the problem of long waits in the heat and to separate entry and exit flows, and a kids’ zone was newly operated for family visitors. The official application, introduced for the first time this year, enhanced on-site convenience by providing a real-time GPS-based venue map, guidance on the locations of stages, medical booths and cool zones, real-time congestion levels, performance start alerts, timetables and notices.

Medical safety management expanded the number of medical booths compared with last year in preparation for the heat wave, with medical staff stationed throughout the venue at all times. The festival established a system in which first-aid measures were carried out at the nearest medical booth in the event of an emergency, and patients requiring hospital transfer could be swiftly moved by ambulances kept on standby nearby. Medical booths stocked cooling sanitary pads in consideration of female visitors, and the locations of medical booths and cool zones were provided in real time through the application.

The festival also breathed life into the local economy. During the event, restaurants and cafes near Songdo Moonlight Festival Park were crowded with festivalgoers, resulting in long waiting lines. One merchant running a restaurant nearby said, ‘During Pentaport there are far more customers than usual, enough to form waiting lines,’ adding, ‘Every year the festival period is a big help to sales, so it is a very welcome event for local merchants as well.’

Son Mi-hwa, head of Incheon’s Arts Policy Division, said, ‘Thanks to the support of the 150,000 spectators who came out to Pentaport despite the heat wave and the cooperation of local residents, we were able to successfully wrap up this year’s festival.’ She added, ‘We will continue to expand global music exchange and further strengthen audience-centered operations to leap forward as a world-class music festival that goes beyond Asia.’

Meanwhile, the Incheon Pentaport music festival runs a variety of related programs throughout the year in addition to the main festival. It has broadened its points of contact with music fans at home and abroad through the pre-show ‘PENTAPORT THE FIRST WAVE,’ the official pop-up store ‘PENTAPORT THE SECOND WAVE’ held at the Musinsa Store in Hongdae and the Musinsa Megastore in Yongsan, the ‘Pentaport Live Club Party,’ the Tokyo showcase in Japan ‘PENTAPORT TAKEOFF : TOKYO 2026,’ and the newcomer-discovery project ‘2026 Penta Super Rookie.’ Further information is available on the official website (pentaport.co.kr) and official social media accounts.
