Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) conducted a joint public-private inspection of harmful environments for youth in Yeongheung-myeon on Aug. 12, aiming to support safe leisure activities for young people during the summer vacation season.

The inspection was designed to identify in advance elements of a harmful environment that can easily be overlooked at beaches and nearby commercial areas frequented by vacationers and youth, and to boost community interest and participation in protecting young people.
Officials from Ongjin-gun County and Yeongheung-myeon, along with youth guidance committee members, took part in the inspection, conducting on-site checks and guidance activities at Simnipo Beach and Janggyeongni Beach as well as nearby areas with a high concentration of establishments deemed harmful to youth.
The inspection team focused on whether establishments off-limits to youth for entry and employment were properly fulfilling their signage obligations, whether alcohol and other harmful substances were being sold to minors, and whether harmful media materials were being distributed or displayed.

Officials also briefed business owners and employees on legal requirements related to youth protection and asked for their active cooperation in preventing young people from being exposed to harmful environments.
“As areas around summer vacation spots see both youth activity and foot traffic increase together, proactive management of harmful environments is important,” an Ongjin-gun County official said. “We will continue to cooperate with the local community on ongoing inspections and prevention activities, and do our utmost to create a safe environment where young people can feel at ease.”
With tourists flocking to beach areas in summer causing a sharp rise in temporary business facilities and foot traffic, these areas have been cited as a blind spot in managing harmful environments for youth. The joint inspection is also seen as an opportunity for Ongjin-gun County to review its youth protection system at marine tourist sites within the county.
