Jungang Rice Cake House (CEO Yeom Gwang-bae) and Seohyun Timber (CEO Lee Hwa-yong), both businesses based in Yeonan-dong, Jemulpo-gu, Incheon, donated a total of 240 kilograms of rice to the Yeonan-dong senior center on August 14.

Each of the two businesses contributed 12 sacks of rice weighing 10 kilograms each, together amounting to 24 sacks, or 240 kilograms. The donation has been noted as particularly meaningful in that it came from local small business owners who voluntarily pooled their efforts.

The donation was arranged to help elderly residents and neighbors, worn down by the continuing heat wave, keep up with proper meals. The two businesses are said to have long shown interest in sharing with the local community.

Yeom Gwang-bae, CEO of Jungang Rice Cake House, and Lee Hwa-yong, CEO of Seohyun Timber, said together, “It’s a small gesture, but we prepared the rice hoping it would help our elderly neighbors stay cool and healthy this summer,” adding, “We will continue to actively take part in efforts to share warmth with the community.”

Kim Sang-gyu, head of Yeonan-dong, said, “I extend my deep gratitude to the two CEOs for practicing warm sharing for our local elderly residents,” and added, “We will make sure the donated rice is properly delivered to the senior center so that the elderly can have healthy meals.”

As local merchants continue to look after the diets of vulnerable residents during the sweltering summer, the sharing is expected to help elderly residents using the Yeonan-dong senior center get through the summer more comfortably.
