The project was established by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to improve access to exhibitions for the hearing-impaired (deaf) and expand their opportunities to enjoy culture and leisure. This year, the ministry evaluated museums, art galleries, exhibition halls and memorial halls nationwide and selected 10 institutions.

The Sudoguksan Daldongne Museum was confirmed as a supported institution on July 28, and from September it will begin full-scale production work to convert key content from its permanent exhibition into sign language videos.

Through this support project, the museum plans to produce sign language videos covering key exhibition information from its permanent exhibits, creating a viewing environment where deaf visitors can understand and enjoy the exhibition content without difficulty.

Having obtained Barrier Free (BF) certification in July, the museum has now also been selected for this support project, further establishing itself as a ‘barrier-free open museum’ that offers not only convenient physical access to its facilities but also accessibility to exhibition information.

Jemulpo-gu District Mayor Kim Chan-jin said, “With this project selection, we have laid the groundwork for all district residents, including the deaf, to enjoy exhibitions without barriers.” He added, “We will continue to expand barrier-free cultural spaces where everyone can enjoy culture without discrimination.”
