The Incheon Ganghwa County Council of the National Unification Advisory Council (chaired by Lee Yoon-seop) held a discussion forum titled 「Unification Empathy Talk Together with Future Generations 2026」 on the 7th at the Ganghwa Campus of Anyang University in Bureun-myeon. The event was organized as an occasion for the younger generation to reflect on the issues of peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula on their own and to broaden a sense of common understanding.

Hosted by the Youth Subcommittee of the Ganghwa County Council of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, the forum drew a total of 80 participants, including council advisory members and students from Anyang University.
The lecture was delivered by Professor Chung Il-young of Sogang University under the theme of ‘The Present and Future of Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.’ Following the lecture, participants shared their views on peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and the role of future generations, and addressed their questions together through a question-and-answer session.

The event was significant in that it moved away from a pattern in which unification discourse had been discussed mainly by older generations, allowing young people who will become the real leaders of unification in the future to take part directly and voice their views. In particular, by bringing students and local advisory members together in a university lecture hall to discuss peaceful coexistence, the event served as an opportunity to confirm that unification is not a distant discourse but a task closely tied to the lives of local youth.
Council Chairman Lee Yoon-seop said, ‘We arranged this occasion to spread a sense of common understanding on unification and to broaden the scope of youth programs through exchange, cooperation and network-building among young unification leaders,’ adding, ‘We will continue to pursue various initiatives to spread empathy for unification going forward.’
