Ganghwa-gun Deploys Drones for Safety Inspections in Areas Hit by Torrential Rain

Precise aerial diagnosis of cracks in cut slopes and rockfall risks eliminates disaster blind spots

Posted Article No. 59039

Ganghwa-gun (Mayor Park Yong-cheol) announced that it has carried out on-site safety inspections using drones at areas damaged by torrential rain and at facilities vulnerable to disasters. The measure aims to eliminate safety blind spots by conducting aerial diagnoses even in collapse-prone areas that are difficult for people to reach.

Ganghwa-gun has moved away from its conventional manpower-centered inspection methods and launched safety inspections using drones. The shift comes as climate change brings more frequent localized downpours, increasing the need for advanced equipment capable of examining wide areas in fine detail within a short time.

The targets of the inspection include areas damaged by torrential rain, steep slopes, and disaster-vulnerable facilities where weakened ground raises concerns about collapse or rockfall. Ganghwa-gun plans to prevent various safety accidents in advance by using drones to film and monitor, from the air, cracks in cut slopes that are difficult to spot with the naked eye, rockfall risks, and the maintenance status of drainage facilities.

The greatest advantages of drone inspections are safety and efficiency. Because they allow collapse-prone areas or elevated structures that people cannot easily approach to be examined safely, they ensure the safety of inspectors while enabling precise diagnosis of wide areas in a short time. For residents, for whom rapid response is paramount in disaster situations, this translates into a tangible strengthening of the safety net.

Ganghwa-gun said it will immediately correct minor risk factors identified during the inspections, and will swiftly allocate budget to carry out work on sections that require repair or reinforcement.

Mayor Park Yong-cheol said, ‘With unpredictable localized downpours becoming more frequent, thorough advance preparation is more important than anything else,’ adding, ‘We will make active use of advanced equipment such as drones to carefully examine disaster-vulnerable factors and do our utmost to protect the lives and property of our residents.’

Meanwhile, inquiries related to this inspection can be directed to the Disaster Management Team of the Safety Management Division of Ganghwa-gun (032-930-3497).
