As the use of personal mobility devices grows and the importance of preventing accidents increases, Incheon’s Michuhol-gu District (Mayor Kim Jung-sik) has launched electric scooter safety training. The district said on the 3rd that it held an “electric scooter (PM) safety training” session at the Michuhol-gu Children’s Traffic Education Center in Gwangyo-dong, in cooperation with Incheon Metropolitan City, the Korea Road Traffic Authority and The Swing, an electric scooter operator.

The training was provided to 15 adults and was built around cases of electric scooter accidents that can actually occur in daily life. Following video instruction aimed at helping participants recognize dangerous situations in advance and prevent accidents, a demonstration was arranged showing how to properly wear safety gear and ride safely. Participants also took part in riding practice, operating the scooters themselves.
Electric scooter safety training was first introduced for the general public at the Michuhol-gu Children’s Traffic Education Center in 2024. Citing the high satisfaction of residents who have taken part in the training so far, the district plans to continue the program in order to establish a culture of safe and convenient personal mobility device use.
Even before this training, the district had steadily carried out various accident-prevention activities, including safe-riding promotion and campaigns for proper use. The move reflects the view that, with electric scooters having become an everyday means of transportation, having users learn safety rules for themselves is the fundamental measure for reducing accidents.
A district official said, “We will continue to push forward with electric scooter (PM) safety training and promotional activities in cooperation with related agencies such as Incheon Metropolitan City and the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and take the lead in fostering a culture of proper use.”
