A public forum will be held to examine the place of local media centers in a rapidly changing media environment. The Juan Visual Media Center (Director Jang Gu-bo) in Michuhol-gu District (Mayor Kim Jeong-sik), Incheon, will hold its second ‘2026 Media Table’ forum of the year at 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Open Studio on the eighth floor of the center.

The theme of the forum is ‘The Restructuring of Intermediary Support Organizations and the Place of Media Centers.’ It was organized to examine what role and identity local media centers should assume amid the rapid reorganization of the media ecosystem, and to seek sustainable directions for their operation.

Yoo Ki-sang, a professor in the Department of Media Communication at Chungwoon University, will moderate the forum. Choi Young-hwa, a senior research fellow in the Urban Society Research Division at the Incheon Institute, will open the discussion with a keynote presentation on ‘The Restructuring of Intermediary Support Organizations and the Place of Media Centers: The Third Incheon Cultural Promotion Implementation Plan and Media Platform Strategy.’

The panel discussion following the presentation will feature Yoon Hye-sook, section chief at the Seongnam Media Center; Park Sung-hee, secretary general of the Michuhol Haksan Cultural Center; and Jung Young-jin, division head at the Bupyeong-gu Cultural Foundation. These working-level leaders, who have led local media institutions in the field, will gather to exchange views on policy directions and operational challenges facing local media centers.

The forum is open to any citizen interested in local media issues. On-site attendance is limited to the first 20 applicants, and for those unable to attend in person, the event will also be streamed live on the center’s official YouTube channel. Applications and further details are available on the center’s website.

Through this forum, the center plans to review response measures to changes in local media policy and to explore, together with citizens, the role media centers should play in the local community and their future strategies. The event carries considerable significance in that the direction of local cultural policy will be discussed in a public forum with citizens.

Director Jang Gu-bo said, “We prepared this forum to reflect on the direction and identity that local media centers should pursue in a rapidly changing media environment,” adding, “We hope many citizens will show interest and take part in this meaningful occasion to explore future strategies for local media.”
