Gwacheon National Science Museum’s ‘Here Comes Science’ Season 2 Seeks 500 New Subscribers

Five months from August through December — a science learning kit delivered home every month

The Gwacheon National Science Museum (Director Lee Choong-won) has revamped its non-face-to-face science education content subscription service, ‘Here Comes Science,’ and is unveiling it as Season 2, recruiting 500 new subscribers who will receive a monthly learning kit over the five months from August through December.

What if a box filled with science books and hands-on activity materials were delivered to the doorstep every month — wouldn’t children come to encounter science naturally in their daily lives? ‘Here Comes Science’ is a program born from this idea. The Gwacheon National Science Museum launched this non-face-to-face subscription service during the COVID-19 pandemic for children who found it difficult to visit the museum, and has continued it to this day.

The biggest change in Season 2 for 2026 lies in how the content is organized. Until now, textbooks and activity materials were bundled by theme, offering self-contained content each month. This year, however, the entire five-month subscription period has been connected into a single story, with monthly science missions to be carried out along that narrative thread.

The hero of the story is ‘Ru.’ Having fallen by chance into a world between the cracks, Ru must find a way out, and sets off on the journey together with ‘Kkaebi,’ a keyring doll that had hung from the bag and magically comes to life. The two heroes explore caves, forests, lakes, plains, and high mountains, solving problems by drawing on scientific principles such as light, sound, and electricity. Subscribers step into Ru’s shoes and take part directly in solving the problems within the story using the activity materials in the learning kit, experiencing science firsthand.

Each monthly learning kit delivered to the 500 subscriber households contains one textbook with the story and guidance for the hands-on activities, along with the materials needed for three to four hands-on activities. A distinctive feature is that children learn scientific principles through the process of building and observing with their own hands.

The program is designed primarily for children aged seven to eight, but any child between the ages of six and thirteen may apply. Subscriptions are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from July 28 to 30 through the learning management system of the Gwacheon National Science Museum’s education hall, and the subscription fee is 150,000 won for the five months. Further details are available on the Gwacheon National Science Museum website.

Director Lee Choong-won said, ‘Through Here Comes Science, I hope many children will come to embrace science naturally in their everyday lives and develop the habit of holding on to curiosity and questions right from home,’ adding, ‘I also hope the joy of science experienced at home will lead their steps toward the museum as well.’
