Yeongjong-gu, free legal counseling for power outage victims

Special counseling office to run at district office on 25th … follows damage report center with stronger compensation support

Posted Article No. 54340

Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) in Incheon announced on the 5th that it will offer free legal counseling support to residents and small business owners affected by a power outage that occurred in the district on July 13. The measure is a follow-up step to the “Power Outage Damage Report Center,” which has been in operation since the 3rd.

The support comes after Mayor Son Hwa-jeong instructed officials at an expanded senior staff meeting on the 3rd to “take a more proactive approach to help protect the rights of residents who may be suffering in silence over legal issues that can arise during the complex compensation claims process.”

The district plans to set up and operate a “Special Free Legal Counseling Office for Power Outage Victims” on Tuesday, the 25th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., on the fifth floor standing audit hall of the Yeongjong-gu District Office (201 Haneuljungang-ro).

The support is available to residents and small business owners who suffered direct property loss or business damage from the July 13 power outage. The counseling office will operate on a first-come, first-served reservation basis, and applications can be made by contacting the Yeongjong-gu Economic Support Division (032-760-7392).

Affected residents who visit the counseling office will be paired one-on-one with a professional attorney to receive legal counseling related to the power outage compensation process at no cost.

Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said, “Going beyond simply handling damage report submissions on residents’ behalf, we have moved to provide legal support so that residents are not left out of fair compensation in the process of dealing with KEPCO. Yeongjong-gu will always stand on the side of residents and focus on providing concrete relief measures so that they can genuinely feel the effectiveness of local administration.”

Earlier, the district set up and has been operating a power outage damage report center for about a month, from the 3rd to the 28th, at the Yeongjong-gu District Office Economic Support Division (201 Haneuljungang-ro, 5th floor) and at the Yeongjong-dong, Yeongjong 1-dong and Yeongjong 2-dong community service centers. Any resident or small business owner who suffered direct property loss or business damage from the power outage can visit the center with identification to file a report.

The report center serves an administrative support role, receiving damage reports on residents’ behalf and forwarding them to the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The district plans to manage the status of submissions on a daily basis and promptly forward them to KEPCO to press for a swift review of compensation.
