Yeongjong-gu District Holds Joint Nighttime Crackdown on Noisy Vehicles Along Haneul-daero

Focus on violations in moving-noise regulated zones and illegal tuning — one motorcycle caught

Posted Article No. 54344

Incheon’s Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) conducted a joint nighttime crackdown on vehicle noise and illegal tuning along Haneul-daero in Jungsan-dong on the evening of the 3rd, working together with the Yeongjong Police Station and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority to protect residents’ living environment and reduce complaints about late-night noise.

The crackdown was carried out to verify drivers’ compliance and strengthen on-site public awareness following the implementation, from July 1 this year, of a notice designating a “moving-noise regulated zone” that restricts the use of high-noise motorcycles.

The area the district operates as a moving-noise regulated zone covers Haneul-daero near Jungsan-dong 1997-1998 and within 50 meters of the boundary of apartment complex sites. In this section, high-noise motorcycles emitting exhaust noise exceeding 95 decibels are barred from traveling between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following day.

The joint crackdown team focused its checks on compliance with permissible noise standards, whether additional horns had been attached, whether mufflers had been removed, and whether measures within the regulated moving-noise zone had been violated.

Of a total of 14 vehicles checked, one motorcycle was found to have been operated with its muffler removed without authorization. The district plans to take administrative action against the driver, including an improvement order and a fine, through the relevant authorities.

The crackdown team also carried out public awareness activities urging drivers to refrain from sudden acceleration or loud driving when traveling through residential areas.

Under the current Noise and Vibration Control Act, a fine of up to 2 million won can be imposed for exceeding the permissible noise standard for vehicles in operation, while a fine of 100,000 won can be imposed for violating measures within a moving-noise regulated zone.

Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said, “Going forward, we plan to continue nighttime crackdowns and public awareness activities in cooperation with the Yeongjong Police Station and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority to create a better living environment,” adding, “We ask for drivers’ active cooperation in refraining from causing unnecessary noise when driving near residential areas and in eradicating illegal modifications.”
