Incheon Metropolitan City is recruiting a Citizen Planning Group to design the city’s future together with residents 20 years from now, as part of the ‘2045 Incheon Urban Master Plan.’ Applications will be accepted from Aug. 18 to 26, and any Incheon resident may apply.

Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that it is recruiting a Citizen Planning Group to directly reflect residents’ voices in the process of establishing the ‘2045 Incheon Urban Master Plan.’
The ‘2045 Incheon Urban Master Plan’ is a 20-year urban plan that sets out Incheon’s long-term development direction and future vision. Through the operation of the Citizen Planning Group, the city intends to have residents take part directly in the planning process and to shape the future image of Incheon together, reflecting the policy direction of the 9th popularly elected administration.
A distinctive feature of this Citizen Planning Group is that it moves away from an expert-centered approach to planning. The city has decided to incorporate into the plan the urban problems that residents actually experience in their daily lives, along with their demands for change. This means that urban planning will not remain solely within the domain of the administration and experts, but that residents’ lived experience will become the starting point of policy.
Any Incheon resident may take part in the Citizen Planning Group, and the city plans to form the group in a balanced way by comprehensively considering factors such as residence, age and gender. Through discussion sessions, the selected members will deliberate on Incheon’s future image and major pending issues, and on that basis will be tasked with proposing the plan’s future vision, key issues for each living zone, and measures for improvement.
Applications will be received from Aug. 18 to Aug. 26. Residents wishing to apply may download the application form from the ‘New Updates’ or ‘Notices/Announcements’ menu under ‘Incheon News’ on the Incheon city website, fill it out, and submit it in person at Incheon City Hall or by post, fax or e-mail. The final results will be announced on Aug. 28 through individual notification and the city website.
Mayor Park Chan-dae said, ‘The 2045 Incheon Urban Master Plan is an important plan that sets the direction Incheon will pursue over the next 20 years,’ adding, ‘I hope for the keen interest and participation of our residents, so that the everyday experiences and ideas of each and every citizen can become a precious foundation for building Incheon’s future.’
Incheon said it will continue to operate diverse communication channels, including the Citizen Planning Group, to give concrete shape to the city’s future vision together with residents and to ensure that their voices are faithfully reflected throughout urban planning.
