The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) will hold the ’76th Anniversary Incheon Landing Operation Commemorative Week’ across the city for six days from Sept. 10 to 15. The event is intended to honor the sacrifice of war veterans and to reflect, together with citizens and future generations, on the values of freedom and peace.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that it will hold the ’76th Anniversary Incheon Landing Operation Commemorative Week’ across the city from Sept. 10 to 15 to mark the 76th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation.

Under the theme ‘Freedom We Defended Together, Incheon a City of Peace,’ this year’s commemorative week is being jointly organized by the Incheon Metropolitan Government and the Republic of Korea Marine Corps Headquarters. The program is designed to remember the sacrifice and dedication of war veterans while helping citizens and future generations connect with the values of freedom and peace, and includes a range of activities spanning commemoration and remembrance, education and historical experience, and culture and civic participation. In particular, the events are organized around three themes — ‘Remembrance and Gratitude,’ ‘History and the Future,’ and ‘Exchange and Empathy’ — with an emphasis not only on commemorating the past but also on reflecting on today’s peace and passing its value on to future generations.

‘Remembrance and Gratitude’ begins with memorial events. At 9 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Wolmi Park, a flower-laying ceremony will be held at the memorial monument for the victims among the original residents of Wolmido, honoring the residents who died during the Incheon Landing Operation and consoling their bereaved families. On Sept. 14, in the vicinity of the Navy War Memorial on Yeongheungdo, a memorial ceremony and cultural event will pay tribute to the 14 fallen members of the special mission for Operation X-RAY, which laid the groundwork for the operation’s success. On D-Day, Sept. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at Freedom Park, a flower-laying ceremony at the statue of General MacArthur and a tribute to war veterans will take place.

The centerpiece of the commemorative week, the ’76th Anniversary Incheon Landing Operation Ceremony,’ will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 at the Wave Hall of the Sangsang Platform, with some 1,000 attendees including war veterans, distinguished guests and citizens. The ceremony will proceed with a military band and honor guard demonstration, a pre-ceremony performance, the entrance of war veterans and the flags of participating nations, a veteran’s reflection, and a commemorative address. This year, a 30-minute musical performance highlighting the courage and sacrifice of the heroes who took part in the Incheon Landing Operation will vividly convey the history of that time. Immediately after the ceremony, an appreciation event will follow, featuring words of thanks, programs honoring war veterans, and commemorative photographs to express gratitude to the veterans.

‘History and the Future’ is characterized by strengthened educational programs. Since last June, ‘special lectures visiting schools’ have been offered to high schools in the Incheon area, exploring youth peace leadership together under the theme ‘Incheon’s History, the Incheon Landing Operation, and an AI-Powered Peaceful Future.’ Visits to major historical sites such as Palmido and Wolmido, expert roundtable tours, and special lectures on peaceful reunification are also planned. The ‘Peace Talk Concert,’ which conveys history to citizens in an approachable way, continued with a first lecture by Professor Park Noja on Aug. 5 and will continue on Aug. 30 at Inha University with a lecture by ‘Big Star Teacher’ Choi Tae-sung.

On Sept. 14 at the Harbor Park Hotel, the ‘2026 Incheon Peace and Security Forum (IPSF 2026)’ will be held under the theme ‘From the Memory of War to the Practice of Peace.’ About 200 participants, including domestic and international peace and security experts, citizens and students, will attend, and around 30 experts will discuss ways to put peace into practice across two keynote addresses and four sessions. In addition, a ‘Special History Exhibition’ will be held at the Incheon Landing Operation Memorial Hall from Sept. 10 to Oct. 11, allowing citizens to reflect on the values of history and peace even after the commemorative week.

‘Exchange and Empathy’ is filled with cultural and hands-on programs. At 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Grand Performance Hall of the Incheon Culture and Arts Center, the ‘Peace-Wishing Concert with Incheon Citizens’ will feature a Marine Corps military band performance, an honor guard performance, a collaboration with the Incheon Metropolitan Children’s Choir, and invited performances by well-known singers. On Sept. 12, the ‘2026 Unification Harmony Festival’ will be held at Songdo Sunrise Park, and on both Sept. 12 and 13, the original musical ‘KLO,’ based on the Incheon Landing Operation, will take the stage at the Jemulpo-gu Cultural Center.

On Sept. 15, a ‘Citizens’ Peace Experience Zone’ will be set up at the event plaza of the Sangsang Platform. Drawing on the names of the landing points, it will consist of three themes: the Red Zone ‘Courage of That Day,’ the Green Zone ‘Resonance of Peace,’ and the Blue Zone ‘Promise of Tomorrow.’ ‘Courage of That Day’ will offer exhibitions and hands-on experiences of military equipment such as amphibious assault vehicles, along with virtual reality (VR) experiences of specialized Marine Corps training; ‘Resonance of Peace’ will feature a history exhibition and the ‘Peace ON Operation’; and ‘Promise of Tomorrow’ will run a participatory performance in which citizens leave peace messages, as well as a Future Generations Peace Gallery.

Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae said, ‘The Incheon Landing Operation is a history that safeguarded the freedom of the Republic of Korea and a precious part of Incheon’s history embodying the sacrifice and dedication of countless war veterans,’ adding, ‘Through the 76th anniversary commemorative week, I hope citizens will remember the courage of that day and, together, reflect on the preciousness of the freedom and peace we enjoy today.’ He continued, ‘As we are preparing this year’s commemorative week together with the Marine Corps Headquarters, we will broadly share the historical significance of the Incheon Landing Operation and the value of peace with citizens — not only through gratitude and honor toward war veterans but also through education for future generations and civic participation programs.’

Anticipating that many citizens will visit during the event period, the Incheon Metropolitan Government plans to prepare safety management and traffic measures for each event and to ensure safe operation in cooperation with related agencies. Detailed schedules and participation methods for each event will be announced through the Incheon Metropolitan Government website and other channels.
