The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (Acting Commissioner Cho In-kwon) announced that it will hold the ‘2026 IFEZ Triathlon Championship and Side Events’ over two days, from Sept. 12 to 13, at Cheongna Lake Park and across Cheongna International City. Centered on the triathlon and complemented by RC mobility experiences and youth K-POP dance, the event has been designed as a participatory festival that not only professional athletes but also local residents and family visitors can enjoy firsthand.

The event is distinguished by its use of the urban spaces of Cheongna Lake Park and Cheongna International City as a stage where sports, culture and future mobility can be experienced all in one place. Rather than remaining a competition for professional athletes alone, the program has been arranged so that Cheongna residents, children and teenagers, and family visitors can watch and take part directly, reflecting the Incheon Economic Zone Authority’s plan to offer local residents a fresh leisure and cultural experience.

The highlight of the event, the IFEZ Cheongna Triathlon, will take place on the morning of Sept. 13 at Cheongna Lake Park and throughout Cheongna International City. Organizers are aiming for the participation of about 500 triathlon enthusiasts and athletes from across the country, competing over an Olympic course of a 1.5㎞ swim, a 40㎞ cycle and a 10㎞ run. The swim will be held at Cheongna Lake Park, while the cycling leg will loop along the roads of Cheongna International City around the lake park before returning to the park, where the race concludes with the run. As an urban triathlon in which competitors leave a conventional venue behind to swim in a city lake and continue cycling and running against the backdrop of Cheongna’s cityscape, it is expected to offer citizens a novel spectacle.

A day before the main race, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 12th, the ‘IFEZ RC Car Championship’ will unfold at the Water Plaza of Cheongna Lake Park. Alongside RC car racing, a variety of mobility programs designed to capture the interest of children and teenagers will be on offer. In the morning, visitors can view an RC car exhibition, assemble and race mini cars, and watch and try RC boat demonstrations, while the afternoon features vintage RC exhibitions and races, heavy-equipment RC demonstrations and hands-on experiences, and free driving and experience sessions by category. Structured to let participants encounter RC cars and future mobility firsthand rather than merely observe, the program is run so that families with children can enjoy it together.

That same day, from 5 p.m. to 7:40 p.m., the ‘IFEZ Youth Dance Festival’ will be held at the Multi Plaza of Cheongna Lake Park. With a K-POP dance competition and celebratory performances featuring teenagers from the Incheon area, young people take the lead as the stars of the festival. Beginning with the opening ceremony at 5 p.m., the program continues with first- and second-round dance competitions, celebratory performances and an awards ceremony. Through content such as K-POP dance, street dance and random play dance, the plan is to create a dynamic festival atmosphere that teenagers and young adults can enjoy together.

Meanwhile, the Incheon Economic Zone Authority asked residents and drivers for their advance awareness and cooperation, noting that traffic control will be in place on some roads around Cheongna Lake Park from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the 13th, when the triathlon is held. As the cycling race runs along the roads of Cheongna International City, vehicle traffic on some roads may be restricted or require detours during the race, and there may be some adjustments to bus operations as well. Pedestrian access and use of facilities in parts of the lake park where the swimming and running events take place may also be temporarily restricted.

Cho In-kwon, Acting Commissioner (Deputy Commissioner) of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, said, ‘Through the distinctive sports and diverse hands-on programs unfolding at Cheongna Lake Park, we hope this becomes a festival that brings joy to residents and showcases the appeal of Cheongna International City to the entire nation,’ adding, ‘We ask for citizens’ understanding and cooperation so that the event can proceed safely and smoothly.’
