The Incheon Metropolitan City Agricultural Technology Center announced that 160 members of the Korea Rural Leaders Federation Incheon Chapter will attend the 79th Korea Rural Leaders National Convention, to be held from October 6 to 8 in the vicinity of the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. As the host of the 81st National Convention in 2028, the Incheon delegation will officially take over the convention flag at this year’s event.

The Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Chan-dae) Agricultural Technology Center announced that 160 members of the Korea Rural Leaders Federation Incheon Chapter will attend the 79th Korea Rural Leaders National Convention, to be held from October 6 to 8 in the vicinity of the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
The Korea Rural Leaders National Convention is a nationwide event in which rural leader members from across the country share directions for the development of agriculture and rural communities and exchange agricultural technology and information between regions. This year’s convention is expected to draw some 15,000 participants, including rural leaders and agricultural officials from across the nation.
This convention carries particular significance as it is the first national gathering to be held since Incheon was selected to host the 81st National Convention in 2028. At the venue, the Incheon Chapter will officially take over the convention flag symbolizing the next host city, marking the start of the national convention to be held in Incheon in 2028.
Incheon was ultimately chosen as the host of the 81st National Convention in 2028 after an on-site inspection by the host selection committee last August, prevailing over Jeju in the competition. Taking the handover of the convention flag as a starting point, the city plans to work with the Korea Rural Leaders Central Federation and the Incheon Chapter to advance preparations step by step across areas such as the venue, accommodation, transportation, safety, and promotion.
At this national convention, Incheon plans to showcase its agricultural resources and farm specialties, including those of Ganghwa-gun and Ongjin-gun, to farmers nationwide through activities such as the evaluation and exhibition of outstanding farm products. This holds practical significance for local farmers in that it can draw national attention to Incheon’s agricultural base — often overshadowed by the city’s image as a metropolitan area — and lead to expanded sales channels and greater recognition for local farming households.
Jeong Yong-mun, chairman of the Korea Rural Leaders Federation Incheon Chapter, said, ‘It is deeply meaningful to take over the convention flag on behalf of Incheon, the host of the 2028 National Convention, at a gathering joined by rural leaders from across the country.’ He added, ‘Starting with this handover, the rural leader members of Incheon will unite as one and work actively to ensure that the 2028 National Convention is held successfully.’
Lee Hee-jung, director of the Incheon Metropolitan City Agricultural Technology Center, said, ‘Following the confirmation of our bid to host the national convention last August, taking over the convention flag is a meaningful step that signals the full-fledged start of the 2028 Incheon National Convention.’ He added, ‘We will introduce the appeal of Incheon’s agriculture and rural communities to rural leaders nationwide, and prepare steadily so that in 2028 we can hold a successful national convention where farmers and citizens from across the country come together.’
