Gangseo-gu Wraps Up Miracle Medi Special Zone Medical Tourism Tour for Overseas Koreans and Foreign Nationals — From Airport Pickup to Custom Checkups, District Advances as Global Medical City

The Gangseo-gu Office in Seoul (Mayor Jin Kyo-hun) announced on the 16th that it had successfully completed a medical tourism tour of the Gangseo Miracle Medi Special Zone for groups of overseas Koreans and foreign nationals over two days, on the 9th and 13th. Organized to boost the district’s efforts to attract foreign patients, the tour was built around Gangseo-gu’s medical tourism slogan, “Stay in Gangseo, Experience Healthcare,” with participants touring a carefully selected lineup of local medical institutions across specialties ranging from skin care and comprehensive health checkups to dentistry, orthopedics and fertility treatment, experiencing firsthand the quality and safety of the district’s medical services.

The first tour, held on the 9th, brought together a total of eight participants, including overseas Korean members from the United Kingdom, Thailand, Norway and Australia who were visiting Korea for the 22nd Eurasia Regional Conference of the National Unification Advisory Council, along with officials from the KOWIN World Korean Women’s Foundation. The group visited Abijou Clinic Gangseo (dermatology), Jayeonsaem Clinic (thyroid cancer) and Bumin Prestige Lifecare Center Magok Clinic (comprehensive health checkups) in succession within the Gangseo Miracle Medi Special Zone, examining each institution’s specialized treatments and medical equipment. At Abijou Clinic in particular, participants showed keen interest as they personally experienced dermatological procedures such as Botox injections and aqua peeling.

A second tour followed on the 13th, with 11 executives and staff members from the Central Council of Chinese-Korean Compatriots — an organization that signed a business agreement with Gangseo-gu in May to promote medical tourism — invited to take part. The group toured Yonsei Hill Dental Clinic (dentistry and implants), which is equipped with a global care system including examination rooms dedicated to foreign patients and airport pickup services, as well as Seoul One Hospital (orthopedics, spine and pediatric orthopedics) and Magok Cha Women’s Clinic (fertility treatment and reproductive cell banking), taking part in a customized medical experience program that went beyond a simple facility tour. Participants showed strong interest, following the actual patient treatment flow and asking detailed questions about interpretation support systems and procedures for handling foreign patients.

The tour carries significance in that it was organized as medical tourism targeting overseas Koreans, Korean residents abroad and foreign patients is gaining attention as a new pillar for revitalizing the local economy and medical industry. Amid a recent push by numerous local governments to attract foreign patients, Gangseo-gu is expanding its network of specialized medical institutions centered on the Miracle Medi Special Zone, covering everything from skin care to treatment for serious illnesses. Notably, this event went beyond a mere promotional tour, serving both to broaden practical contact points with overseas networks and to gauge visitors’ actual reactions and demand on the ground.

Gangseo-gu Mayor Jin Kyo-hun said, “This tour served as an opportunity to showcase Gangseo-gu’s world-class medical infrastructure to the world and further raise the district’s international profile,” adding, “We will continue to build a solid overseas network and make Gangseo a global medical tourism city that patients can visit with confidence.”

Meanwhile, Gangseo-gu plans to use this tour as a springboard to expand cooperation with overseas Korean communities and organizations involved in international medical tourism.
