The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that, together with the Republic of Korea Marine Corps Headquarters, it will hold the ‘Peace-Wishing Concert with the Citizens of Incheon’ at 7 p.m. on September 11 in the Grand Performance Hall of the Incheon Culture and Arts Center.

The concert is held in connection with the ‘Commemorative Week of the 76th Anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation,’ which runs from September 10 to 15. It was designed to reflect on the historical significance of the Incheon Landing Operation and the sacrifice and dedication of its veterans, and to allow citizens to share together in the values of freedom and peace. The Incheon Landing Operation was the decisive operation that turned the tide of the Korean War, and this performance—held in Incheon, the very stage of that operation—carries great meaning in linking the region’s history to the memory of its citizens.

The performance is themed ‘Beyond the Wave of Victory: Incheon and the Marine Corps.’ Through music and story, it unfolds the resolve and progress of the landing operation, the courage and sacrifice of the participating troops, and the image of Incheon as it overcame the scars of war to recover peace. The stage proceeds through ▲Act 1, Resolve: A 5,000-to-1 Chance of Success ▲Act 2, Mission: Land at Incheon ▲Act 3, Comrades: Casting Myself Aside to Protect Us All ▲Act 4, Landing: Beyond the Waves to Incheon ▲Act 5, Marines: The History of the Invincible Marine Corps Continues ▲Act 6, Incheon: A Sea That Embraces Peace.

The cast includes the Republic of Korea Marine Corps military band and acting troupe, as well as actor Yoo Moo-seon, soprano Kim Jeong-a, singer Lee Young-hyun, the Incheon Metropolitan Boys and Girls Choir, and a performance team from Soongeui Women’s College. Through stages spanning various genres, the organizers plan to convey the historical significance of the landing operation more vividly. Ahead of the main performance, a preliminary performance by the Marine Corps honor guard will be held from 6 p.m. in the outdoor space of the Incheon Culture and Arts Center.

About 1,100 people will take part in the event, including veterans and bereaved families, Marine Corps troops and military families, key invited guests, and citizens. Online pre-registration for citizen attendance closed early amid strong interest, and no on-site registration will be held on the day of the event to ensure smooth operation. The Marine Corps will notify pre-registrants by text message of matters necessary for attendance, such as the distribution of admission tickets.

Yoon Byeong-cheol, director general of the city’s administration bureau, said, ‘This concert is an occasion to remember together with citizens the courage and dedication of the veterans who safeguarded the freedom and peace we enjoy today,’ adding, ‘I hope it becomes a meaningful time to reflect on the historical significance of the Incheon Landing Operation through music and performance, and to pass on the value of peace to future generations.’

Meanwhile, the ‘Commemorative Week of the 76th Anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation’ is being run under the theme ‘Freedom Safeguarded Together, Incheon the City of Peace.’ During the period, various events—including a commemorative ceremony, memorial services, the Incheon Peace and Security Forum, and a citizens’ peace experience zone—will be held throughout Incheon, allowing citizens to reflect on the meaning of peace in their daily lives.
