남동구, 치매 환자 치아치료를 위한 ‘치매 친화 치과의원’ 지정

인천시 남동구는 치매 환자가 안심하고 편안하게 치아치료를 받을 수 있도록 지역 내 치과 의료기관 2곳을 치매 친화 치과의원으로 지정했다고 12일 밝혔다.

대상 의원은 만수동 소재 ‘더365치과의원’과 구월동 소재 ‘예온치과의원’이다.

구에 따르면 치매 환자 대부분이 고령자로, 의사전달이 원활하지 않아 치아치료에 어려움이 있었다.

이에 남동구는 치매 환자가 안심하고 치과 진료를 받을 수 있도록 치매 친화치과의원 지정에 관한 조례를 제정하고, 치매 친화 치과의원을 지정․운영한다.

치매 친화 치과의원은 치매 환자에 대한 편견 없이 의료서비스를 제공하는 등 치매 친화적 사회 조성에 적극 동참하게 된다.

남동구는 해당 의료기관 구성원이 치매 환자를 이해해 적극적으로 대응할 수 있도록 치매 파트너 교육 등을 지원했다.

박종효 남동구청장은 “치매 환자의 치과 진료 부담을 해소하고 삶의 질을 높이는 데 도움이 되길 바란다”라며 “치매 친화 치과 의료기관과 치매 안심 가맹점을 확대해 더욱 촘촘한 치매 안전망 구축에 노력하겠다”라고 밝혔다. 

Incheon Namdong-gu announced on the 12th that it has designated two dental institutions in the area as dementia-friendly dental clinics to ensure that dementia patients can receive dental care in a safe and comfortable environment.

The designated clinics are “The 365 Dental Clinic” located in Mansu-dong and “Yeon Dental Clinic” in Guwol-dong.

According to the district, most dementia patients are elderly, and communication barriers often make dental treatment difficult.

To address this, Namdong-gu has enacted an ordinance to designate and operate dementia-friendly dental clinics, allowing dementia patients to receive medical services without prejudice and actively participate in creating a dementia-friendly society.

These clinics will be supported to ensure that their staff can understand and respond effectively to dementia patients, including training programs like dementia partner education.

Park Jong-hyo, the head of Namdong-gu Office, stated, “I hope this helps alleviate the burden of dental care for dementia patients and improves their quality of life. We will strive to expand dementia-friendly dental institutions and dementia-safe franchises to build a more robust safety net for dementia care.”
